DOZER & QUEENIE

Dozer (left), 9-year-old Red Heeler/Husky mix. Adopted from the Marin Humane Society when he was 4.5 mos old. He's a wonderful, brilliant boy who loves people and other animals. Dozer has a very intense stare that sometimes intimidates strangers. I have to explain that he's a cattle dog and he can't help it. Queenie (right), 2-yr-old Queensland mix. We found her last year on death row at the Kern County Animal Control Facility in Bakersfield, CA. She had a serious case of kennel cough, worms and her right hip and back had deep lacerations that had to be stapled shut. The animal control people found her badly injured in an oil field, probably attacked by another animal. She was a stray and starving to death. Queenie and Dozer both have wonderful lives now. Queenie in particular wakes up every morning grateful to be healthy and loved. The first thing she does is grab one of her many squeaky toys and start squeaking and running around until we get up to cuddle with her. She is now a strapping 25#'s (was 17 when we adopted her) and her scars are hidden under a thick, shiny hair coat. As you can see, she's got a terrific smile. This is a photo of both dogs on vacation in Tahoe, CA, taken last month.
