 Hi! I'm Sweetie and I have an AMAZING TALE to TELL! My mom found me late one night, last July (2006) in the little town of COLOMA, California. According to her it was 104-degrees, just getting dark and I was running down the solid-yellow line of highway 49, just covered in big ticks and flees, dehydrated and panting non-stop! My mom was quite worried: I was panting for over two-hours and so she immediately thought that something in my health history had been compromised. Come to find out, it had been! Once my mom mom picked me up, she put me in touch with the local Auburn chapter of the humane society. The vets there checked me thoroughly and said I had 'Stage III Heartworm'--ew! How gross is that?! Being such a caring animal lover mom came to my rescue, again, upon hearing about my Heartworms. She asked the SPCA if they would "look inside their own hearts" and give me another chance by allowing her to take me home for treatment with a local vet; At one point I think I overheard her say, "How many months or years had this dog (me) been wondering the country side in search of a well-meaning soul or owner? Most dogs would lose sight of their goal--but not her; she knew just who she had to meet to get herself out of that awful heat and dry landscape, and it was me." The SPCA signed me over to Heather immediately--My stinky breathe, ticks, and fleas must have surely turned them off! Score for the Aussie team!... Mom then proceeded to take me to the nearby Petsmart--where a nice lady groomed me to perfection! Then, a local veterinarian visit was in order, whereby we had three very ouchy appointments to rid my "heart" of those "worms". Thankfully it was worth it. I now spend my time herding the pygmy goat, Blinky, the three horses, and sometimes my brother Mac-a fellow rescue dog. May you learn peace, love, and satisfaction with each "heartworm" you come to know in this life.~
