There are times that certain Australian Cattle Dogs are in
need of a new home. These dogs really don't fall under the
heading of "Rescue Dogs". These are dogs that are still
*WITH* their current owners who are, for one reason or another,
looking for a different situation for their companion.
Occasionally a dog kept by a breeder as a show prospect
will develop a disqualifying fault (ex. overbite, underbite,
monorchism, incorrect coat color) and that breeder will decide to
place the dog. None of these faults would keep any dog or bitch
from being a perfectly lovely obedience prospect, working dog or
family pet but a reputable breeder will not want these faults in
their breeding program.
Some times a dog just doesn't fit into a certain
household for one reason or another. A personality conflict with
either another dog in the home or even with one of the human
members of the household can often lead to the decision that said
dog would be better off in another place. Some other reasons that
a person might choose to place their ACD are: allergies, divorce,
new baby, moving, new job, etc.
Often these dogs are simply placed into loving homes. Most
times there will be a small fee involved for acquiring these
dogs, as many people feel strongly "that there is no such
thing as a free dog."
MEET ROO:
He is a little over two years old and is very gentle. He also
has a great deal of energy, which is the problem. We love this dog, but
I and my
husband both work all day and my daughter is in college. We just do not
have the time to give him the love and attention that he needs. We gave
him the
name roo because he can jump about about 4 to six feet in to the air
after a ball. He loves to play ball. He could chase that ball for
hours, but we just
do not have the time to throw it for him that long. He also likes to
put his feet in water after running for a while. He will not lay in the
water, but
he will stand there for several minutes, and he will also retrieve the
ball if it drops in the water if he can reach it. He loves to run and
spend time
with people. He eats small bite Petagree food .

He has been Neutered
and has received his pupy shots. He also has dog tags. It will be very
sad to see
him go, but We believe that he would be much happier and better off
with someone who can spend more time with him.

MEET DAN & ANN:
Dan and Ann are 8 month old littermates. They are still very young and trainable and would be wonderful rescue candidates. I am trying to find them a loving home because my housing situation is changing and they are currently living in a small pen in the city. Dan is a beautiful red heeler with a Labrador personality. He is only interested in being your best friend. He gets along well with other dogs but is passive and avoids conflict whenever possible. Ann is a masked red female with more prey drive than her brother. She sometimes picks on dogs that are smaller than her but is still afraid of bigger dogs. They function well as a pair and I would like them placed together if possible. They both have had their basic shots and are in good health. They are located in Athens GA near Atlanta Georgia.

MEET AUSSIE:
We love Aussie but recently he is aggressive toward one of our children, we can not seem to resolve it and hate the idea of the pound so we hope you can help. Other than the aggression toward our son he is a great dog. He does not seem to be aggressive toward other children, he is great with our other kids.
Aussie is 10 months old and has had all his shots.

MEET POOKA:
Pooka is an 11 mos old female ACD/ Border Collie(?) mix rescued from a WV kill shelter. She is spayed, UTD on shots and chipped. High energy, high herding/prey drive, smart, independent, mischievous sense of humor. She needs a home with a fenced yard, no cats or small children, not home alone. Knows some basics but needs training, patience, love. Loves fetch and jumping for snow wedges. Good agility, frisbee, maybe herding prospect. No adoption fee. Comes with bowl, leash, toys, crate can be negotiatied if needed. My cats are afraid and my older corgi is practically attacking her now, so most of her life is in a crate. She looks similar to a doberman, alas, but this is the Kelpie coloring without frosting. All the rest of her litter got adopted because they looked more like cattle dogs. PLease help her with a foster or forever home!

MEET AUSTIN & ANDY:
Austin and Andy are littermates age 3.5.
We rescued the pups at 5 weeks of age. In 2005 we had to move from the country to a city lot, and we lack the space here the dogs need to run/work/roam. They are healthy boys, up to date on rabies, nuetered, and are strong and LOVE to walk. Andy, the white heeler with red freckles, looks just like his mother (who was abused, as Austin has a different papa per out vet...from the same litter!) and is about 45 pounds and the Alpha male. Austin is about 55 pounds , brownish red all over with a black muzzle. I will attach a pic.
We love our boys VERY much. However, they need more room to run and play. We are not able to sell our city home and move to the country again. We are sure that it isn't always possible to keep them together, but they are littermates, they sleep together every night in the same kennel, share from the same food dish, etc.
The dogs are quite territorial and do bark when someone walks by outside the backyard privacy fence. I am not sure at all if they would be "working" cattle dogs, as they've never really been around farm animals or worked a farm. However, I know they have escaped a couple times (they figured out how to tag-team a breakout and trip the latch and slide it together while one dog pushed on the privacy fence gate) and they go straight to my friends' house who has a creek and chickens. They haven't killed any chickens, but she said both times they were "playing" with and trying to "chase" the chickens.

MEET TIP:
Our loving 10 yr old Female Queensland Heeler came to us at age 4
after being on a ranch herding cattle for a short time. She would
pin and nip at the cattle too much and so we took over loving her
for the last 6 yrs.My daughter was a toddler at the time. She
loves children and has always been around our kids friends and
other children and babies with no problems.Even when they have
yanked on her. She does not like other submissive animals and
will fight them.We do have two other dogs and a cat that she has
been fine with, but sometimes runs after the meeker dog and
chases him under a table. When it comes to men as an owner she
needs much love. She will be timid at first due to being abused my
a man as a young pup, and may piddle on the floor the first
couple weeks til she's comfortable. She is potty trained ,
spayed and is up to date on her rabies shots. Her tail was
clipped as a pup.She enjoys being inside more than outside and
knows how to use a dog door. She loves to have her belly
rubbed, play fetch, go on walks, and rides in cars. She has saved
my life once due to carbon monoxide filling up in my house when I
was sick. She made me get up out of bed by pawing and barking in
my face til I followed her downstairs to smell the problem. She
warned me of a maintenance guy that she did not like or want in
our home and charged at him(he did look shady), but was nice to
the two carpet layer guys.We are saddened that our move to an
apartment will not allow her.My husband and her are close, and my
daughter and I have cried. She even wrote a song about how she
will miss her.We are running out of time and have to move
September 13th. We will truly miss our Tip.

MEET HOLLY:
My husband and I acquired Holly 2 years ago from my in-laws
because my mother-in-law was allergic to her. Holly is a sweet
dog, and has lived well with my husband, me and our other 2 dogs
(a lab and a lab-mix). We are concerned about keeping her though,
because my husband and I are expecting our 1st baby in August,
and we don't trust Holly with a baby or young child. Holly is
a very friendly dog, but it is clear when she needs her own
space. In an adult only household, it is easy to honor her space
and leave her alone. We would feel better placing her in a good,
loving home where we would not have to worry about a small child
with her, rather than keeping her in a home where she would have
to be separated or live with the risk of a potential incident
occurring. Holly is 8 years old, and would do great in an adult
only household. She has lived well with other dogs (she likes to
herd them and keep them in line). She gets along with some cats,
but does find them intriguing and likes to "check them
out". Holly has a white marking on her forehead and brown
around the ears. She has a grey torso with a few large black
spots.

MEET MOUSE:
Intelligent and adorable 6 year old Blue Heeler seeks a loving
home with a big yard. I am unable to keep Mouse because I am
headed off to college where cute dogs like Mouse can’t
receive the attention they deserve. Mouse is a unique dog, her
hobbies include; digging, playing with rocks, playing fetch for
hours, swimming, riding in the car, and having her belly rubbed.
She is a very protective girl and does have the tendency to nip
and be unfriendly to strangers and kids. She would love to have a
nice owner preferably a big man who will show her who is the
boss. She has gone through obedience training and can obey most
commands. When she gets attached to someone she is very loyal and
extremely loving. I love her and I want the best for her and I
hope to find someone who feels the same.

MEET BAXTER:
Baxter is a Red Heeler Mix who will be 2 in August. He is full of
energy like all cattle dogs. Unfortunately, I work too many long
hours, so he is in a kennel 12 - 14 hours many days and at night
to sleep. Too long! He needs to be with someone that doesn't
work so much or a family when people are home various times
throughout the day. I'm sure he would love to be an outdoor
dog, too. I have little neighbor kids that tease him through the
fence, so I can't leave him out all day while I'm gone.
When I got Baxter, I was "saving" him; I've never
had a large dog before, so this has been a new experience to me.
He is definitely smart and can be trained, I'm just not good
at it. With a treat, he will sit, give his paw, and stay for a
couple minutes. He's not very good at coming when called and
I think it's because he knows I'm going to put him in his
crate. When you say his name, he will stop what he's doing
and look at you, for a good treat he'll come! He will play
fetch sometimes, but tug-o-war is his favorite! He can be
occupied for awhile with chew treats and rawhides, and he loves
to play in the sprinklers! Baxter loves everyone and everything!!
(Well, as far as people and other dogs go. I don't know how
he would be with cats.) He has been neutered and microchipped. I
feel like a bad mommy posting an ad for someone else to adopt
him, but I think it's what would be best for him.

MEET CANDY:
Candy is about 4 years old. I got her from a shelter. She is very
timid at first, especially around men. She is very smart, and
learns quickly. She is very affectionate, and playful. The
shelter warned me that she may become aggressive to my other dog
(a 10 year old lab/chow mix). This is now getting to be a
problem, although they play well most of the time, they have
begun to fight from time to time. Candy is also extremely
jealous, taking toys away from the older dog and stopping the
older dog from coming to me for attention.

Cattledog.com Listing 5/3/2007
I believe Candy needs to be with other ACD'S or in a single
dog home. For more information cntact: Dan Ullmann, Ft. Myers

MEET BRANDY:
Hello my name is Brandy. I am a friendly eight year old small
cattle dog who loves to play with tennis balls and I can hold
two, occasionally three at once. I am quick and agile despite my
eight years and I still enjoy long walks with my person. I am
extremely loyal and if I have my way I will follow you around the
house and yard all day long. I do very well on the leash and
never stray far when off of the leash. I listen well but I am a
bit stubborn when it comes to sleeping anywhere but at the feet
of my person. While I am extremely found of my person, I am not
so fond of other dogs. I currently live with two other dogs but I
do not care to socialize with them. I also have two cats but I
don't pay much attention to them either. Some things I cannot
be around are young children who do not understand that they need
to leave me alone and not get in my face or come into my space. I
am in need of a new home as my person decided to have a child and
I am not very fond of my person's child. I have been spayed
and I am current on all of my vaccinations. I also have a current
license from Solano County.

I know you will find my loyalty and easy going nature a pleasure
to be around and I am anxious to join a new family. Please call

MEET NETTA:
Netta is registered and does not have a docked tail. She is 7 yrs
old. I was told from someone who shows cattle dogs in
conformation that she is pretty nice. I think she is beautiful.
She is not hyper. She also does not have a strong herding
instinct. She will not herd cattle at all in fact she is afraid
of them. We have horses and she will run with them if they run
but does not herd them. She has a very nice dispostion. She would
be great with kids. She is fine with cats. She is good with other
dogs but she has attacked one poodle that we own This poodle and
Netta got in a fight over food and of course Netta is bigger so
she won. For some reason Netta hates this dog and I think it is
because the poodle tries to push her around. She loves playing
with all other dogs but is food possessive with them. She is not
food posessive with humans at all. Just does not want to share
her food with any other dogs. When she was younger my daughter
took her through obedience classes for therapy dogs. She is well
trained. She loves everyone and wants to sit on your lap. She is
debarked because where I live you get fined if a dog barks more
than 15 minutes in 24 hours. She has a slight voice but it does
not sound bad like some of them do. She is spayed. She is current
on all of her shots and is on heartworm preventative. She does
not get carsick. her weight is good. She has no health problems
or skin problems. She is not deaf. She is not housetrained but is
crate trained. We have a farm so she has always lived in our barn
tackroom, on the property or in her run.

MEET NAN:
Nan is 1.5 year old (spayed) female Blue Heeler. Our family
rescued her off of a busy road when she was a pup. She is
housebroken and kennel trained. She tends to be aggressive and
nippy when she is trying to be controlled. She will submit to our
other dog, a male chow mix, and will usually avoid him. However,
she seemed to have played well with our neighbor's (timid)
boxer female. She has a problem with barking at and wanting to
chase cars; we've had to keep her on a tie out. We would like
to place her with someone who has the time and patience to give
her the training she needs, and somewhere she'll have plenty
of room to run.

MEET VICTORIA:
Victoria is 1.5 years old she is up to date on everything and
spayed. We have had her since she was 12 weeks old. victoria has
been to puppy K and did fairly well unfortunately her attention
span is not for food as much as running and chasing ect.....she
has been a wonderful dog with a few small exceptions..we recently
introduced a playpal for her ACD/Sheperd mix.. victoria is
extremely proctective of her toys, food and sleeping space with
the puppy.

Unfortunately she has become a little too alpha and has shown
signs of agression with us also, I fear she is just not a house
dog and really needs to be on a farm or put to work to be truly
happy. I think she would be better in a home with no other
pets,And owners who can more agressively train her.Jay Cummings
